Backward Classes Welfare Department.

The Government of Karnataka in 1977 created a separate "Backward Classes and Minority Department" for the welfare of the backward classes, minorities in the state and provided for the provision of educational reservation under Article 15 (4) and 16 (4) of the Constitution of India . In 1999-2000 the Minority Welfare Department had a separate Directorate separate from the Backward Classes Welfare Department.  The Department of  the Backward Classes Welfare has a separate headquarters and it has a continuous program to provide social justice, educational incentives and financial assistance to the backward classes and bring them to the main channel of society. Implementing the State Sector and District Sector Programs by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, under the supervision of District Commissioner and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, District Backward Classes Welfare Officer and Taluk Backward Classes Welfare officers.
