BACKWARD CLASSES WELFARE DEPARTMENT

 

The Government of Karnataka has taken several measures for the educational and economic advancement of the Backward Classes under Article 15(4) and 16(4) of the Constitution of India. 28% reservation has been provided to Backward Classes in admission to professional courses and in state government appointments as per Government order No.  SWD 225 BCA 2000, dt: 30.03.2002. The percentage of reservation provided to Backward Classes is shown below.

Government of Karnataka has enacted SC/ST/OBC Act 1990 with effect from 1.6.1992 for enforcing the reservation provided. With a view to ensure proper implementation of reservation provided to Backward Classes under article 15(4) & 16(4), guidance bureau is functioning. The inspecting team of this office inspects unit offices (recruitment authorities & educational institutions) and action will be taken to set right the anomalies occurred in reservation norms etc.

In addition to providing reservation for education and employment purpose, the Department of Backward Classes Welfare is implementing various educational and economic schemes for the upliftment  of Backward Classes.
