Management of government ashram schools

(Budget for FY 2020-21 of Rs. 348.13 lakhs)

Ashrams are being maintained under the Backward Classes Welfare Department with a view to providing primary education to Backward Classes students.These ashram schools are providing education, meals and lodging for children studying in grades 1 to 4 as follows.
1. Food will be given to each student for a period of 10 months at a cost of Rs.1600/- per month.
2. Supply of two pair of uniform per year for each students.
3. Supply of text books and slate per year at a cost of Rs.50 / - per student.
4. Other expenses such as soap, oil, etc. for a period of 10 months at the rate of Rs. 20 / - per student.
5. Each ashram school provide bed blankets to students.
6. For cooking vessel maintenance Rs.200/- for the hostel with sanction number 50 and Rs.400/- for the hostel having more than 50 sanction numbers will be covered per year.
7. The annual haircut cost of Rs.300 / - per male student.
Detail of the standard procedure to be followed for admission to the Ashram schools
1.When selecting students for admission, 75% of the sanctioned number should be selected for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes and 25% to students belonging to Scheduled Castes.
2.If the number of students belonging to Category-I is not available in sufficient numbers, the reservation amount should be as follows.
1 Category – 2A 54 Percent
2 Category – 2B 14 Percent
3 Category – 3A 14 Percent
4 Category-3B 18 Percent
  Total 100 Percent
3. Annual income limit has been fixed at Rs. 1.00 lakh for Category- I students and Rs. 44,500/-for Category – 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B students.
The following Taluka Level Selection Committee has been constituted as per Government Order No. SAKAE 221 BMS 2009 dated 24.07.2009 to select students for these Ashram schools.
1 Members of the assembly representing the larger part of the taluk Chairman
2 Members of the assembly representing the rest of the taluk Members
3 Members of the respective Legislative Council Members
4 Concerned taluk panchayat executive officers Members
5 Branch Education officers(B.E.O) Members
6 Tahsildars of the respective taluk Members
7 Doctors of the local government hospital in the respective taluk Members
8 The respective Taluk Extension Officers of Backward Classes Welfare Department Member Secretary
